Bollywood wedding: Temple marriage for Vidya Balan on Dec 14

After much speculation, the wedding festivities for actress Vidya Balan and her beau (and UTV-Disney head honcho) Siddarth Roy Kapoor were finally flagged off with a private Sangeet event in Mumbai.

Held at Vidya’s Khar residence, the first celebration was strictly a family affair, with only close non-Bollywood friends in attendance.

Despite being tight-lipped about their wedding, Vidya and Sid did step out in designer finery to acknowledge the waiting paparazzi.

Dressed in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee burgundy red Kanjeevaram saree, Vidya looked stunning, while Siddarth wore a somber white–embroidered kurta.

The Sangeet saw Vidya’s cousins and Siddarth’s actor-brothers Aditya and Kunal team up to perform for Vidya’s hit songs.

It’s said that the actress also danced to her hit dance track ‘Oh La La’ from her famous film ‘Dirty Picture’.

Now, the couple is reportedly gearing up for the ceremony on December 14, which will be solemnized at the Subramania Samaj temple in Chembur.

The date is special to the Balan household as Vidya’s older sister Priya also got married on the same date.

It’s speculated that the bridal party will then head to Siddarth’s parent’s sprawling Cuffe Parade apartment in Jolly Maker Towers.

Vidya’s trousseau is being designed by her close friend and designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who is adding the final touches to her wedding saree.

“Sabyasachi will personally work on the sarees that will be weaved in silk. The bride and her family have chosen to go with traditional, Indian wedding colours in pure Chennai silk,” revealed a Bollywood website.

In fact, her trousseau will also include one saree from the winning participant of a design contest that was held by a leading Indian daily.

It is believed that the Bollywood guestlist will include Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ekta Kapoor, R Balki, Tushhar Kapoor, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Milan Luthria, Vishal Bhardwaj, and a few others.

The couple will then fly to Chennai for another celebration, mostly to honour Vidya’s Tamilian background.

Since they come from different backgrounds, their wedding will honour both their Punjabi and Tamil roots.

After the two-city celebrations, the couple is expected to go on a Caribbean cruise. Once back, the newly-weds will shift into the Rs14-crore Juhu apartment that Sid had recently purchased.

This will be Vidya’s first and Siddarth’s third wedding.

After the ceremonies, the couple will head to the Caribbean Islands for their honeymoon, after which they will return to Siddharth’s newly-acquired sea-facing apartment in Juhu.

The apartment, valued at INR 14 crore, has been decorated by the actress.

Vidya, whose movie career has since sky-rocketed post super-successes like ‘Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’, will be working till she finally says, “I do”.

Some sources on the set of her new movie ‘Ghanchakkar’ told the media that the entire schedule of the film was planned according to Vidya’s wedding.

Apparently, the wedding date was set a long time ago, and this is the only movie Vidya is currently working on. “Since it (‘Ghanchakkar’) is produced by UTV it was convenient to co-ordinate her shooting schedule with her wedding date.”
