Dubai investors offered opportunities in Niagara Falls

A group representing investors from Dubai has been offered a “buffet table of opportunities” in Niagara Falls, according to the city’s mayor.

"We offered them a buffet table of opportunities in Niagara Falls, several of which they are interested in," Mayor Jim Diodati was quoted as saying in 'Niagara Falls Review'.

The mayor recently visited Dubai on a week-long trip where he sold the “Honeymoon Capital” to potential investors.

"I'm not ready to crack open the champagne until I see money in the bank, but judging by the reception we got, I'm confident bright days are ahead for Niagara Falls," he told the newspaper.

Diodati met with "teams of investors” and also spent time with members of the royal family, including Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Though he declined to reveal the identity of investors, or the investment avenues, Diodati said the trip helped forge "strong" strategic alliances.”

In September, Diodati had said he will be looking at direct investment and strategic alliances while in Dubai.

"They're looking at development and redevelopment, and they're not just looking at one area, they're looking at several areas," he added.

Impressed by the amount of investment made into Dubai's education, manufacturing, tourism and retail sectors, he said: "Everything they do, they do right. Everything they do is big. They have a can-do attitude. They don't believe in mediocrity.”

'Emirates24|7' reported last week that Canadians were among the top 10 nationalities investing in Dubai’s realty market.

Canadians purchased 68 plots for Dh285 million, 388 apartments for Dh608m and 20 buildings/villas for Dh31.08m in the first six months of 2011, according to data exclusively shared by Dubai Land Department.
