A cashier at a supermarket in Dubai has been stabbed after an altercation with a customer over a delay in delivery of goods.
The incident, which took place on Friday night in the Al Nahda area, comes just a week after a stabbing incident in the Al Ghuwair market of Sharjah.
According to sources, the victim is Naushad, 22, cashier and son of the owner of the Al Madina Supermarket in Al Nahda, near the Carrefour Express outlet.
A person close to the victim said: “The watchman of a nearby building placed an order with the supermarket for fish and he was furious when it was not delivered on time.
“It is a very busy supermarket located and after 7 pm there is a huge rush.
“The cashier and the watchman had a showdown over the telephone over the delay of delivery and ultimately it resulted in a stabbing case.”
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Dubai’s Rashid Hospital.
The brother of the cashier told Emirates 24|7 that the attack took place on Friday night at around 11pm.
“My brother had a verbal argument with the customer who was angry about not delivering the fish on time.
“Even after delivering the fish, he was repeatedly abusing him over the phone and threatened to teach him a lesson.”
“After work, he was stopped by two men including the customer in question.
“They started questioning him over the delay and the watchman stabbed him on the left side of chest,” he said.
“He collapsed on the spot and the two men fled from the scene,” his brother said.
“Another colleague passing by saw Naushad lying in a pool of blood and called me. We immediately rushed him to the hospital and for six hours he was in the emergency ward,” he said.
“If his colleague did not see him, the situation would have been different. We did not expect such a type of customer reaction,” he said.
The second man alleged to have aided in the attack is still at large.
The accused has been arrested by the Dubai Police.
“When a customer places an order we deliver within half an hour.
“Fish items take at least 45 minutes because there are only one or two staff assigned to clean the fish. When they give orders sometimes there is a delay,” said a supermarket source.
