Dubai taxi fare traps Nigerian with fake euros

A Nigerian visitor allegedly possessed forged 238,500 euro notes and also tried to use forged 100 US dollar note to pay taxi fare, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

A taxi driver suspected the $100 note paid to him by an African passenger. He called the police which immediately came and arrested the passenger.

Police confiscated forged $300 and 2,000 euros from his possession and found 236,500 euro notes from his accommodation during the raid.

The accused claimed that a friend had given him the money and he was using it for the first time. After denying initially, he later confessed later that he aware of the fake currency.

The court will announce its verdict on December 12.
