Indian woman kills husband in Bahrain

An Indian woman is on trial in Bahrain on charges of murdering her husband by stabbing him at home following arguments over their financial problems.

The woman insisted that her husband stabbed himself because of severe abdominal pain caused after he took medicine.

Forensic examination showed that she likely stabbed her husband while a testimony by her two little children who were in their bedroom refuted her claims.

Bahrain’s Arabic language daily ‘Al Wasat’ said the judge decided to issue a sentence against the defendant in November.

It quoted the woman as telling the court that she married the man, a former cricketer, in 2004 and had two children from him. They later came to Bahrain, where he worked at a jewellery shop for BD450 (Dh4,500) and decided to borrow BD17,000 (Dh170,000) to build a house in India.

“The woman said her husband started to borrow more and that they began to have severe financial problems, which forced them to move to live in a room in a sharing apartment. She said financial difficulties started to cause marital problems,” the paper said.
