Dubai Municipality has completed more than 58% work on the Dh195-million sewage water pumping station at Jebel Ali. The project, the fifth biggest among the ongoing projects of the Municipality's Drainage and Irrigation Department, also includes setting up of necessary supporting pipelines.

The station is part of the ongoing project of the main sewage water treatment plant at Jebel Ali. It aims to link all areas of Dubai with drainage network by the end of 2011.

"The project forms part of the Drainage and Irrigation Department's vision and strategic direction to provide excellent drainage and irrigation services for creating an excellent city that provides the essence of success and comfort of living," said Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the Municipality. "The project commenced on May 15, 2007 and is expected to be completed by mid-2009. It is being implemented as per advanced international specifications," Lootah said.

The project include setting up new pumping station 'H' near 4th and 5th intersections on Sheikh Zayed Road with a capacity to pump 2,000 litres per second. It will comprise four big pumps with a capacity of 500 litres per second and will have options for future expansions for four other pumps with same capacity to take the total capacity to 4,000 litres per second. The project has been awarded to a private firm and is carried out under the supervision of a prominent consultant.

The new project will serve Al Sufooh, Jumeirah Palm and Al Barsha areas.
