Boxing champion Amir Khan is in the throes of growing up from a pin-up boy for the hardest game into a family man.

Khan’s wife Faryal will give birth to their first child and he is taking seriously the change in lifestyle which comes with being a father.

The boxing champ and his wife Faryal Makhdoom previously announced that they are expecting their first baby together and are no doubt excited about it.

While the couple’s parenting skills have already kicked in, it appears that their daughter is already giving Khan motivation to be a better fighter.

Makhdoom is expected to give birth any day now and the excitement of their baby girls’ arrival seems to have given Khan the energy for his convincing win against Luis Collazo today (May 4).

Before the big fight, Khan reportedly told his wife not to watch in the ring against Collazo because it might send her into labor.

Khan didn't want her to be stressing about his welterweight clash with Collazo at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand and is allegedly desperate to be at the birth of their daughter.

He is hoping that Makhdoom doesn’t go into labor early when he is in the U.S.

The 27-year-old stated that he is letting his wife pick the name of their daughter and joked that she already takes after her father.

Since the fairly new Mrs Khan is the daughter of a prominent New York family, there were discussions as to where the baby girl should be born. But Khan insisted it should be in Britain, in Bolton.

The boxer has been always embroiled in lurid headlines about his private life.

The playboy image has never been the over-riding reality of this most likeable young man but hearing him talk for the first time about the adjustments he is so happy to make to his life brings a different, endearing dimension to the boy who thrilled Britain when he won silver at the Athens Olympics ten years ago.
