Grammy-winning singer Sarah McLachlan joins the entertainment line-up at next month’s Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, organisers said on Tuesday.
Flash Entertainment said the Canadian singer would be in the UAE as part of the Official Ball 2010, being held on November 13 at the Yas Island. On the eve of the actual race itself, the ball aims to raise funds for The Naked Heart Foundation. With a four-course dinner, sparkling live music performances and a special auction, the event is being billed the highlight of the Grand Prix social calendar.
A roster of star-studded guests are expected to attend. Last year saw Janet Jackson, Neve Campbell, Marissa Tomei and Jeremy Irons join Formula 1 stars.
McLachlan is famed for lyrical ballads such as “Angel” and “I will remember you.” She has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. In June, she released “Laws of Illusion,” her first album of new material in seven years, since the double-platinum “Afterglow”. In the years between the two, Sarah has married, separated, and is raising two young daughters.
The work of the Naked Heart Foundation is to provide a safe and inspiring environment for underprivileged children to play in, particularly in areas such as Russia where play facilities are not state-funded. Through play, children develop their imaginations, their creativity, become physically stronger and more confident and resilient.
VIP tables of 10 can be purchased for Dh45,000 and standard tables of 10 for Dh35,000. Tickets go on sale Tuesday and can be purchased from Kristina@geventm.com.
