With a deadpan expression and killer remarks, English actor/writer/comedian certainly had his stiff British upper lip in check during his visit to Dubai for the world premiere of the film, “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” where he plays newly graduated field agent, Benji Dunn.
Emirates 24|7 caught up with the funny man for a quick chat.
Can you tell us a little about the experience of filming for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” in Dubai last year?
Simon Pegg: I was here four weeks for the shoot, out of which I shot two days. The rest was spent indoor sky diving, shopping, snow boarding…
What is the most cherished memory of your first visit to the emirate?
SP: I did a lot of shopping, skydiving, go karting…. [laughs].
What was your reaction when you first saw Tom hanging outside Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building?
SP: I remember, one day I stumbled on to the set to watch Tom [Cruise] attempt his Burj Khalifa stunt and what an industry it was to keep him alive hanging outside that building, and I thought to myself: Thank God I was not Tom Cruise.
Where you excited when this money-spinning franchise came your way?
SP: I was a bit nervous when I took the film on, but I had the best time shooting for it with Tom, Brad [Bird, director] and Paula [Patton, lead actress]. This is the 8th best film I have worked on out of 10.
What was it about the script that appealed to you?
SP: I guess the fact that one day we were on an adventure biking, what with flying to Moscow one day to blow up the Kremlin, and then jetting off to Dubai to swing from Burj Khalifa. What was not to love?
