It does seem that the filmmaker’s fascination for a star does change on the Friday of the release.
Not too long ago Vishal Bharadwaj seemed to be extremely gung ho about the fate and the future of his new actor Imran Khan who was the lead actor in the movie 'Matru Ki Bijli ka Mandola'.
But the moment Matru’s bijli did not work at the box office; Vishal Bharadwaj didn't take time to change his mind!
The filmmaker who had earlier thought of casting Shahid Khapoor in his sequel to the film 'Kaminey' and then wanted to replace him with Imran because he felt that Imran was a crowd puller, now clearly seems to have gone back to his original choice.
When asked Vishal Bharadwaj point blank as to who was the hero of the film 'Kaminey 2', the director looked at us straight in the eye and said, "Certainly, certainly it will be Shahid Kapoor.”
When you hear Vishal’s words it is clear that every hope that Imran Khan may have been entertaining to be cast as the lead actor or say actors (Kaminey had Shahid Kapoor in a double role) in the sequel to 'Kaminey', should vanish into thin air.
It was around the time of the promotions of the film 'Matru Ki Bijli ka Mandola' that there were certain rumours that it would be Imran Khan who would be cast as the lead actor in the 'Kaminey' sequel.
Imran was grinning from ear to ear when he heard from the media that his name had cropped up as a possible candidate to work in the sequel and the Aamir Khan’s nephew who loves to use marketing strategies like his Mamu, played to the gallery.
“If the story is good, I would really love to do it. I have seriously enjoyed working with Vishal in his movies. I would love to do another film with him, having said that, I would like to be honest and tell you that we haven’t really spoken about working together in 'Kaminey 2'. If he would like to work with me, I am happy to work with him,” he said then.
But then Vishal says that Imran was never being considered for the role in the first place and Shahid Kapoor was always on his mind. We know of Vishal’s proximity to Shahid’s father Pankaj and hence understand the justification.
“It is not true at all that Imran was considered. Like most rumours, this one is also not true,” says Vishal vehemently.
Vishal may be making dark movies, but he certainly does not keep his priorities in the dark and is clear and lucid about the way he wants to make his movies. Having done the first part pretty well, Shahid does have a genuine claim to do the sequel as well.
Let us hope that this film is made and at the earliest in due course.
