Singer Cheryl Cole gave a sneak peek of her back tattoo when she displayed it for the first time back in February. But yes, that was just a sneak peek.

She has now shocked her fans with the enormous rose tattoo covering the entire lower half of her body.

Cheryl Cole's tattooist Nikko Hurtado has revealed the former Girls Aloud singer's rose inking covers her rear after he posted a photograph on his Instagram account.

Although the star's face isn't in the photograph, the distinctive tattoo makes her recognisable.

Without naming the client, Nikko Hurtado wrote: "Here is an in progress shot of a tattoo I've been covering up and reworking ... Really excited to show healed shots.

Talking about Cherly, Nikko wrote, "It was some intense tattooing sessions. She's tough as nails."

In the past, Cheryl has said the "painful" artwork was chosen on a whim rather than a deep meaning, and she had claimed she was "done with tattoos".

She previously said: "It was really painful but I think I'm done with tattoos now. It wasn't for any particular reason, I just liked the design. It took 15 hours in total."

Fans had seen the ink on her back, but until now had no idea of how far down the piece went.

Cheryl took to her Twitter page on Saturday night to discuss the skin art.

She told one interested fan: "I've had it for maybe 7-8 months, it was a long process but only just detailed it."

Cheryl also told other online followers that the longest she did in one sitting was for 7-8 hours and added to another: "I have personal meaning behind it but English roses are my favourite flowers."

Obviously in a sharing mood the singer also insisted that she's not thinking of having any other tattoos, adding: "No just the big one will do!"
