CID police are on the lookout for two Indian men who attacked a driver with chilli powder and stole his vehicle and personal belongings before abandoning him in the deserted area near Abu Dhabi.
Naser, the driver, was found abandoned in the desert and was rescued by a UAE national, who also informed the police about the incident.
Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Rafiq Hamsa, the owner of the pick-up narrated the sequence of events leading to the incident and said the men hired the vehicle from Al Quoz Industrial Area in Dubai at around 4pm.
Both men are believed to be from the Indian state of Kerala. “They said they wanted to transport goods from Al Badia in Abu Dhabi. They pretended to be very friendly and even stopped at two different locations on their way for tea and refreshments,” said Hamsa.
“The men took a deviation before reaching the Abu Dhabi airport exit and asked the driver to stop the vehicle as they reached a deserted area. Once there, the two men threw chilli powder into the driver's eyes, took out a rod from the bag they were carrying, hit him on the head and drove away with the vehicle,” he added.
Police are investigating the case and have called in the manager of a cattle farm situated on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi where the truck had stopped before the incident.
“This is the first time I am hearing about chilli powder being used for stealing a vehicle. Unless the men have crossed the border into Oman or any other country, we are hopeful that the police will arrest them soon,” added Hamsa.
