166 died on Dubai roads in 2015

Road accidents killed 166 people in Dubai in 2015 and reckless driving emerged as the main cause of the 3,078 mishaps, according to the emirate’s traffic police chief.

Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said last year’s traffic accident casualties were lower than in 2014, when 177 people died on the roads.

Rash driving, including failure to stick to lane, caused 622 accidents that resulted in 34 deaths while failure by the drivers to leave enough space with other cars  was the second cause of accidents, which stood at 597 involving 42 deaths, he said.

Other major road accidents included non-concentration by motorists, negligence, speeding and jumping the red light.
