69-car pile-up on Al Ain-Abu Dhabi Road

Twenty-three people were injured after 96 cars were involved in collisions in four separate incidents in Al Ain caused by lack of visibility due to fog.

One of the accidents involved a 69-cars pile-up.
 
The accident took place on Saturday morning on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road which was enveloped in thick fog.
 

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrol Police Abu Dhabi, said a number of safety and preventive measures were immediately put in place, including moving traffic to alternative routes.
 
He said control of the traffic using an emergency plan was in place with the participation of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, Civil Defence, ambulances, rescue and security patrols.

Injured people were quickly moved to hospitals.

The first collision was between five vehicles on the roundabout at Suwaihan, while the second incident occurred between 69 cars, towards Abu Dhabi.

A third collision involved eight vehicles and a fourth between 14 vehicles, towards Al Ain.
