When it’s a case of the razzle dazzle, no one can sparkle quite as bright as Dubai these days.
After winning the historic Expo 2020 bid last month, it’s the New Year celebrations that has caught all the attention, as the city attempts the world’s largest fireworks display that will rival all others.
The Atlantis The Palm is putting its best foot forward as it attempts to break all records to ring in 2014 with a bang, along with celebrating Dubai’s win to host the world expo in seven years.
While the details of this mega event are still being ironed out, the fireworks are set to rival even the star-studded launch party of The Atlantis The Palm back in 2008, which saw a fireworks display that cost a whopping Dh11 million according to some estimates.
To put things into perspective, back then, people were quoted as saying that nearly one million fireworks were utilised, almost 10 times the scale of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, with organisers then claiming the display was even visible from space.
In a media statement, Serge Zaalof, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, The Palm said: “Winning the bid to host World Expo 2020 gives Atlantis, The Palm, a perfect reason to bring in the New Year with a bang, and this year, our fireworks display is set to be the biggest the world has ever seen- twice the size of our launch.
“Guests will enjoy a range of experiences throughout our 21 restaurants, bars and clubs, as well as two incredible entertainment events and, of course, the world’s most talked about firework displays, covered in over 30 countries.”
It also announced the return of its New Year’s Eve Royal Gala Dinner, while the Sandance music festival is already being touted as the hottest ticket this year at Nassimi Beach, which includes an international line-up of artists, including Swedish House Mafia’s DJ Axwell (Don’t You Worry Child, In My Mind and Save the World), Emeli Sande, Paul Oakenfold and Brit superstar DJ, Pete Tong being the latest name to be added to the list.
Atlantis restaurants will also provide ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Bronze’ set menu options for bigger families and romantic setups for couples.
