Residents of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) will have to fork out Dh4,500 a year to get an assigned parking space in their clusters if they don‘t have one currently.

Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC), on its website, says it has commenced issuing parking permits to residents/companies of Cluster B and D where parking barriers were installed in September. All the other clusters will have the parking barriers in place by Spring 2013.

Parking permits will also be available on a quarterly and half-yearly basis, the website says, putting the quarterly charge at Dh1,500 and half-months at Dh2,500.

In comparison, seasonal parking permits/cards issued by Dubai's Road and Transport Agency costs Dh1,500 and Dh2,500 per annum, respectively.

In cases where applications exceed available parking permits, DMCC will hold a ballot process to allocate its retained parking space.

Unsuccessful applicants may be offered the opportunity to request a permit in nearby clusters.

The barrier activation process had commenced in September. ‘Emirates24|7’ reported in September that DMCC, in an email sent to a JLT resident, said the centre was finalising a solution and would issue JLT parking permits for those who require additional parking spaces.

According to DMCC, parking barriers have been activated to ensure that those people who have purchased the right to exclusive use of parking garages can park their vehicles, sell or lease their spaces.

“Any owner or tenant who has not acquired parking rights is advised to contact their tower developer, owners association, or landlord as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.”

Currently, there are free visitor parking bays and street level parking spaces available across the community. DMCC has emphasized there are plenty of parking spaces available for residents, office workers and visitors.

Last week, this website reported that the 35,000-odd residents of JLT will get more green space as one of the lakes in the master community gets converted into a park.

Lake C, located in front of Clusters O, P, Q and R will be converted into a 55,000 square metre park with construction starting next year.

“Work on the park will commence early next year and will be completed in 18 months,” Matthew Lomax, Director of Property, DMCC, told this website.

JLT is a waterfront community, comprising 87 residential, office and mixed-use towers. In June last year, DMCC told this website that no projects have been cancelled to date in the master development.

The master development comprises 26 clusters of three towers or trios, with each trio having two towers of the same size and one tower that is five floors taller.

The man-made lakes which earlier consisted of four separate water bodies will cover 179,000 square meters and will be approximately three-metres deep.
