The building, where the Dh7.34-billion Dubai Canal will take a turn after moving through Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) and move on to replace Safa Park, will soon be demolished, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.
The building, housing Kodak (Near East) Inc, is the first property on the stretch next to Safa Park to be demolished.
“We will commence demolition of the building in couple of weeks’ time. The work will be completed in 60 days,” a spokesperson for Newtech Building Demolition Company told this website.
“This is the spot from where the Dubai Canal will take a turn and move on to Safa Park,” he added.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said that work on road diversions that will relocate the traffic on SZR is already underway with the road diversions opening for traffic on October 25.
The six lanes in the direction of Abu Dhabi near Safa Park will first be diverted to the adjacent area on the right-hand side. During a later stage, traffic heading towards Sharjah will be diverted to what is now Abu Dhabi bound, to make place for constructions on the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road that borders Business Bay.
Work is in full swing on the Canal, which will connect the Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf.
RTA has awarded contracts, worth Dh1.7 billion, for the three phases of the project. The new contracts announced are for phase II and phase III are worth Dh1.1 billion.
The Dubai Water Canal project will include a new shopping centre, four hotels and 450 restaurants as well as luxury housing and cycling paths.
It is expected to provide new areas measuring 80,000 square metres for public places and facilities, as well as private marinas for boats and a new trade centre at the entrance of the canal.
The canal itself will measure six meters deep, while bridges will be built eight meters high to allow the passing of yachts and marine craft.
The scheduled completion date for the canal is end-2016.
