A stunning gold-embellished traditional mandoos or box, accompanied with a copper encrusted royal chair – these are just some of the stunning creations that have been designed by the inmates at Dubai’s Central Prison, currently on sale.

In an initiative to rehabilitate prisoners, Dubai Police Headquarters, represented by the General Administration of Punitive Institutions, ‘aims to tap the potential and capabilities of inmates, and to sharpen their energy, with the aim of rehabilitation and reform’, the organisation said in an official statement.

Prisoners are encouraged to work daily, and presented with a number of rehabilitation and education programmes through different workshops, aiming to help them ‘cope with life after serving their sentences and live as beneficial individuals to the society’.

More than 50 different products are on sale, comprising handcrafted toys, chairs, Abayas and Shelas, floor mats, beddings, etc.

Those interested may visit the exhibition in the main reception area of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions located in Al-Aweer, between 7.30am and 2.30pm.
