The Driver Licensing Department of the Licensing Agency at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the ‘Smart Tablets (iPad)’ project, it said in a statement.
The iPads, said the statement, have been distributed to the RTA’s inspectors as part of the first phase of the project.
Sultan Al Marzouqi, Director of Driver Licensing at the Authority, said RTA is keen to develop plans and strategies in line with the vision of the authority in launching technical projects and initiatives to keep pace with Dubai’s efforts to provide the best and finest services to members of the community.
“We saw a need to work on transforming the testing services of vehicle drivers to electronic to be in line with the constant changes, through distributing tablets to inspectors during the practical testing of trainees, which will facilitate the licensing application, by recording observations and errors committed by the trainee during the test in a very accurate and clear manner than the old handwriting method on paper,” he said.
He added: “These tablets can calculate all errors. Once connected to the internet, they are directly linked to the electronic traffic system and show the final result of the trainee.
“As well as the possibility of the trainee receiving the result sheet printed in Arabic and English and showing the errors committed during the examination so that they can be avoided in the future, in addition to the possibility of calculating the time it takes for the examination and to be sure of the person’s data for more certainty.”
Al Marzouqi pointed out that in the coming period, iPads will be distributed to the rest of the driving centres with its branches in Dubai, in order to improve the services provided to the public so that RTA can be pioneers in the utilisation of this advanced technology in the training centres.
