After grabbing headlines around the globe with its fleet of Supercars, Dubai Police has now shifted gears to add luxury bike patrols.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief said the move was to entrench Dubai’s status as a city of luxury and sophistication across all its services.
The Superbike, which appears to be a Can-am Spyder, was launched on Monday and will be used for providing security measures in tourist and commercial areas that have narrow street access; it can also be operated as a security specialist even for indoor events, Dubai Police stated.
In January of this year, Dubai Police launched an electrical two-wheeler bike as part of its eco-friendly initiative, which earlier saw a one-man mini car launched in 2013.
Aimed at patrolling busy areas such as market places and tourist spots the
green vehicles were also pegged to reduce noise pollution, apart from giving out zero petrol fumes.
In March of this year, the authority also unveiled its Superboat at the 22nd Dubai International Boat Show, which is touted to be the ‘fastest police boat in the GCC’, covering 90 miles per hour.
However, the boat and the bike paled in comparison to the Dubai Police fleet of Supercars that was first launched last year to include the Lamborghini Aventador, the Aston Martin One-77, the Mercedes SLS, the Bentley Continental GT Speed, the Ferrari FF and the McLaren MP4-12C.
The men in green’s superfleet also added the Bugatti Veyron to its already luxurious fleet of vehicles in February of this year.
Dubai residents took to social media, lauding the latest addition to the police family of super-vehicles, with UAE Shield saying: “From my point of view that this kind of bike is more practical because it can accommodate a larger number of devices and police equipment.”
Ahmed Bilal said: “All I want to know is how can I join the Dubai Police team to ride with this fleet.”
Ali Al Humaid said: “Dubai is doing what it does best – add a touch of luxury to all its services and sectors.”
Marwan H asked: “What’s next, I wonder? A fleet of superplanes? In Dubai, anything can happen.”
