2 held for 'money from the sky' scam

Dubai Police have arrested two expatriates who duped their victims into believing they can bring money from the sky with the help of jinn (ghosts).

Police again slammed the victims for easily falling prey to such tricks due to their greediness as they did in cases involving impostors claiming to clone money by turning pieces of paper into cash.

Police said they arrested a European and an African who have managed to deceive some victims by playing a simple trick showing the sky will rain money and make them rich men.

“They were telling their victims that they can bring large sums of money from the sky with the help of jinn. All the victims need to  do is to pay for a special juice they claimed is favoured by the jinn.

They were asking their victims to pay $30,000 for the juice,” Dubai’s CID chief Major General Khalil Al Mansouri told the Arabic language daily Emarat  Al Youm.

Another CID official said the two were seized with the help of a police undercover posing as a man seeking to become rich.

“They told him they would make the jinn bring him $200 million, but that he should pay them $30,000 for the juice,” said Lt Colonel Salah bu Osaiba, director of the department for combating economic crimes.

“Such types of impostors normally succeed in deceiving some naïve people because of their greediness.

“These people do not realise that such impostors would keep the money for themselves if they can bring it this way. They simply would not share it with anyone.”
