Just when you had thought you had seen it all, Dubai Police pulled a rabbit out of its bag of tricks, with a luxurious Lamborghini Aventador added to its fleet of patrol.

And if you wondering, it’s hit the streets brandishing a license plate number ‘8’.

Images of the mean machine have gone viral on micro blogging site Twitter, with most tweets starting with ‘only in Dubai’.

Last month, Dubai Police had confirmed its patrol cars were getting a sporty makeover, with images of a Chevrolet Camaro two-door prototype being released online.

Upon seeing the images, many online enthusiasts were seen reminiscing of supercar KITT from the popular ‘Knight Rider’ series of the 1980s.

The Lamborghini, of course, races ahead in the style stakes.

Comments on Twitter included ones such as this by Roy Fernandes: “Officer, please cuff me in the Aventador and throw away the keys.”

Zero 2 Turbo tweeted: “I would not like to out-run this thing.”

Hamad Al-Sabah simply asked: “Is this for real, Dubai Police?”

In a statement, Dubai Police has confirmed it will soon introduce sports cars into its fleet to enhance its patrolling abilities.

Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, in the presence of Major-General Abdul Rahman Mohammad Rafi, Director-General, Department of Community Service, and Brigadier Pilot Anas Al Matrooshi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Operations for Transport and Rescue, are reviewing the new cars.

The sports cars have been designed according to Dubai Police specifications and 'will help to facilitate policing on highways', according to the authorities.

In the last one-year, the Dubai Police authorities have released images via social media, in a campaign to the get the public involved in the process of finalising the design change.

In 2012, a slightly altered version of the current model also went viral, with the prototype resembling the four-door Dodge Charger.

However, in the background, viewers were also able to see the Toyota Prado SUV prototype, along with the BMW 5 series.

Last year, Majid Motors also confirmed a handover of 50 units of the Kia Mohave to the General Department of Operations of Dubai Police.

Of the 50 units, 35 were marked as patrol cars.
