A renters guide on how to avoid being duped in Dubai has been launched by a top property consultancy.
Information shared by Afridi and Angell law firm with Emirates 24|7 has been partly used to compile the infographic by Better Homes.
The “Don’t Get Duped in Dubai” infographic, available on (https://bitly.com/YCREwP) is an easy-to-use resource for those seeking to understand the renting process, and avoid dealing with scammers.
‘‘It is a much needed resource for Dubai residents and those new to the city," said Ryan Mahoney, Chief Executive Officer, Better Homes.
“The renting process can be confusing and a simple resource that could be circulated throughout Dubai could safeguard a lot of potential victims and shed light on a process that confuses many people.”
Emirates 24|7 reported in February that a modus operandi similar to one adopted by Shamyana Entertainment and MFR Properties was used to dupe number of property owners in International City.
Last year, a number of rental scams were unearthed, which left hundreds of tenants on the verge of being evicted by their landlords.
Majority of the victims have filed cases in Dubai Municipality’s rent dispute settlement committee, with the panel already having ordered some tenants to vacate the premises. (Click here to read How UAE tenants can avoid being duped by property firms)
With recent uplift in property prices, Dubai is entering a new phase of growth and with that, many renters fear they could be taken advantage of.
“Law-abiding landlords and renters need a trusted brand to do business with, and we are always looking for ways to make it easier for both to get a fair deal,” Mahoney said.
Dubai's Real Estate Regulatory Agency has already advised renters to deal only with registered agents and to ensure that the rent contract is registered on Ejari system.
