Eid Al Fitr holiday for UAE private sector, federal offices announced

Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, UAE Minister of Labour, has issued a ministerial circular announcing the first and second days of the month of Shawwal as Eid-al-Fitr holidays for all establishments in the private sector, to re-start work on the 3rd of Shawwal, 1434.

On the occasion, Ghobash congratulated the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,  Their Highnesses Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates, and the people of the UAE on the occasion.

UAE civil servants could enjoy a five-day holiday to mark Eid Al Fitr in case the fasting month of Ramadan completes 30 days and ends on Thursday.
The holiday could be shortened to four days if Ramadan ends on Wednesday.

In Saudi Arabia and Qatar, civil servants will enjoy a whopping 12-day break starting from Thursday, August 1, while the holiday could be 3 to 5 days in the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members—Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.

As for the private sector, which is dominated by expatriates in most GCC members, the Eid break will be only four days in Saudi and Qatar and could be even shorter in the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.

According to a government statement issued on Tuesday,  UAE federal offices will be closed on Wednesday, Ramadan 29, and work will resume on Shawal 4.
In this case, if Ramadan ends on Wednesday, Shawal 4 will be on Sunday and this means civil servants will have a four-day break starting on Wednesday.

If Ramadan completes 30 days and ends on Thursday, Shawal 4 will be on Monday and this means the holiday will extend to five days starting on Wednesday. In this case federal departments will re-open on Monday.

UAE financial markets to close from 29th of Ramadan to 3rd of Shawwal

The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) announced that the Eid Al Fitr holidays for the financial markets will begin on Wednesday 29th of Ramadan (7th of August) and will last until the 3rd of Shawwal. Trading in the financial markets will resume on the 4th of Shawwal. 

The decision was made in coordination with the financial markets. 

On this occasion, the SCA offers greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of Emirates.

SCA also offers Eid greetings to the people of UAE on this occasion.
