If you’ve failed to register your mobile SIM card despite receiving the SMS, be prepared for the chop.
Brandishing figurative scissors in a decisive crackdown, the UAE telecom provider is sparing no one as the deadline for its third phase of the ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign concludes on April 16.
And if you still are willing to call the bluff, take note that Etisalat has already disconnected 1.3 million phone lines since the SMS notifications were sent out across its three phases, which started in 2012.
With next Tuesday’s deadline looming, Etisalat expects an increase in mobile number registrations via its two new channels introduced last month – online and third party partners.
Mandated by the UAE Telecom Regulatory Authority or TRA, the authorities state that the registration of SIM cards will ‘ultimately protect subscribers from misuse or confidentiality infringement’.
Ayman Eldessouky, Chief Sales Officer, Etisalat, said: “Etisalat’s business strategy is aimed at service excellence to ensure customer satisfaction. To this end, registration of their numbers is a crucial step towards preventing the global threat of identity theft and misuse.
“Etisalat has extended all necessary support to the TRA’s campaign by introducing new registration channels and adding new partners to ease the process for customers.”
For online registration, subscribers can start the process on Etisalat.ae and complete the process at its point of sales outlets to authenticate customer details.
Subscribers can also approach Etisalat partner branches, listed on the company website, to register or update personal information.
For those of you confused whether the current deadline applies to your mobile number can enquire about their registration status on its toll free number 800 121.
