The driver of a mini-bus jumped a red light underneath Business Bay Bridge at the Um Al Rumoul Junction, causing a five-car smash-up and killing his wife who was in the vehicle.

The man’s 18-month old daughter was also injured.

According to Senior Chief Traffic Prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, the Asian driver jumped the red light at the Um Al Rumoul Junction around 2.30pm and hit another car, driven by a 19-year-old pregnant Emirati woman.

“His 23-year-old wife died, while two other passengers, who accompanied him in the bus, were also injured. The impact of the accident threw the man’s 18-month-old daughter out of the window and she landed under one of the cars. The baby girl sustained serious injuries,” Bu Farousha told Emarat Al Youm.

The pregnant Emirati woman escaped with minor injury while her 29-year-old sister sustained moderate injuries.

Six hours later, another Asian driver jumped a red light on Beirut Street and caused one death and five injuries in another five-car crash. Dubai Police’s surveillance cameras revealed that an Asian man was driving a minibus when he jumped the red light.

“He sustained serious injuries and caused the death of one of the passengers, who was thrown out of the vehicle,” said Bu Farousha.
