Mohammed presents Dubai World Cup 2013 trophy to winner

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai watched as the 2000-metre US$10 million Dubai World Cup race, the final round of the horse racing carnival at the Meydan racecourse, kicked off to an exciting start in Dubai on Saturday.

Approximately 84,000 people watched as gates opened and horses from the UAE, USA, Japan, South Africa and Europe galloped to clinch the title of the world’s richest race.

Animal Kingdom, ridden by Joel Rosario and owned Arrowfield Stud & Team Valor, from the USA emerged as victorious and claimed the Dubai World Cup title.

Sheikh Mohammed then presented the Dubai World Cup trophy to the winner and congratulated them on their outstanding performance.

Earlier, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed announced the official opening of the 18th edition of the Dubai World Cup at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai.

His Highness wished participants of horse owners and jockeys a successful at the richest horse race in the world; the US$10 million Dubai World Cup.

The event was also attended by Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Orders payment of additional bonus to taxicab plate number holders in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the payment of Dh26.5 million to Emiratis whose 6, 591 taxicab number plates are being used by the Dubai Taxi Corporation and taxi franchise companies registered with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). 

The General Transport Corporation will commence the distribution of a bonus payment for 2012 to the beneficiaries, in addition to their annual entitlements.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA thanked Sheikh Mohammed for ordering the payment of the bonus to the owners of taxicab plate numbers, many of whom have limited incomes so that they may provide a decent living for their families.

He added that "the reward is one of the noble gestures frequently made by Sheikh Mohammed to help improve the living conditions of citizens, especially those of limited income."
