Ride Dubai supercar taxi for free: When, how?

If Dubai grabbed eyeballs and global headlines with its fleet of supercars across its police, ambulance and civil defence departments, could its taxi fleet be far behind?

The Supercar Taxi is the latest in car luxury that will shift gear for Dubai roads, offering residents and tourists a ride of their lives for free.

Added to the fleet are Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini and even an AMG G Class Limo.

They will be driven into the spotlight as part of the Dubai Motor Festival, which runs from November 19 until December 6.

Each car in this fleet is worth more than Dh1 million, say organisers, adding the vehicles will be deployed at high footfall areas such as malls, tourist landmarks across the city, offering free one-way rides.

The service will operate on the weekends of November 21-22, 28-29 and December 5-6.

“The Supercar Taxis will offer tourists and residents a dream experience like no other. The idea behind this was to celebrate people’s passion for motoring,” said Jin Chwen Ong, Director, Dubai Motor Festival.

“This is the first of its kind in the world and we want to engage the community. Gauging the response we get, we may extend the experience beyond the weekends it will be available,” he added.

However, those hoping to enjoy free rides to far flung places across the country will have to put a brake on their plans as organisers have stated the taxi service is likely to be limited to the city's borders. Meanwhile, they also explained that passengers will be chosen at random and the process is still being ironed out.

Over the last year, Dubai Police took centre stage when it unveiled its fleet of supercars that includes a Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin and a Mercedes SLS.

Last month, Dubai Ambulance launched a Lotus as its first responder emergency vehicle.

Dubai Civil Defence has meanwhile added a Corvette to its fleet.
