Dubai Police arrested an Asian man who robbed a local farm with the help of a dog, which discovered where the loot was buried before tracking the thief down for miles.

The trained dog, which belongs to the security inspection unit (K9) of Dubai Police, led cops to a palm tree more than one km away from the burgled farm and began digging to reveal that all the loot was buried there.

The cops were about to return to the base happy with the discovery but the dog kept spurring them on until they reached a workers’ wooden housing complex.

“There were eight rooms in that complex…the dog sniffed for a few seconds before it jumped towards a room…we opened the door and the dog jumped towards the man lying down on the bed,” said Lt Colonel Abdul Salam Al Shamsi, the unit’s director.

“We found out that he was the thief as he was still in his clothes which he used when he stole the farm…it seems he did not have time to change those clothes.”

Quoted by Dubai-based ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily, Shamsi said the trainers had let the dog sniff the thief’s traces at the farm before letting it lead the way for catching the criminal.

He noted that the unit, which is affiliated to the criminal science division in Dubai Police, carried 2,378 tasks in the first half of 2015 with the help of police dogs.
