Route 2020: Watch Red Line link Dubai Marina to Expo grounds in 16 minutes

The Road and Transport Authority's (RTA) "Route 2020" is ready to zoom off. An official at the Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition said the contractor for the process will be announced soon.

The extension of Dubai Metro's Red Line will end at the Expo ground.

"It is work in progress. We are starting on the ground work," said Moaza Saeed Almarri, director of marketing and corporate communications.

A video showcased the journey through Route 2020.

"It demonstrates the 14.5km route, which will have seven stations - five elevated, and two underground."

The route, she explained, was finalised as it will cater to 240,000 people. "We had identified highly populated areas, and wanted the Dubai Metro to be sustainable even after Expo 2020."

# All currently implemented studies include linking Route 2020 with Al Maktoum International Airport

# Route 2020 starts at Nakheel Harbor and Towers and extends 14.5km of rail. 10.5km of which are elevated and 4km underground.

# It will have total of 7 stations, 5 elevated and 2 underground.

#  New stations are Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Jumeriah Golf Estate, and Dubai Investment Park.

# Travel time from Dubai Marina to the Expo ground is 16 minutes.

# Total number of residents being served by this Route is 240,000.
