Sharjah's King Faisal Street traffic update

The road closure on Sharjah’s King Faisal Street in the direction of Al Wahda Road has come to an end.

However, the same part of the road in the opposite direction has now been closed for three months.

This was announced today by the Sharjah Roads and Traffic Authority (SRTA).

A 2km-stretch of King Faisal Street connecting King Faisal Bridge and Union Square in the areas of Abu Shagara and Al Qasmiyeh has been subjected to maintenance work.

This stretch was closed at the end of July in the direction of Al Wahda, affecting traffic heading to Al Ittihad Road, heading south. This was part of phase one of the project.

On September 17, the road closure in the direction of Sharjah came into place under phase two, affecting commuters coming from Dubai.

Traffic in this direction has been diverted through a temporary road occupying the service lane.

Further, motorists are urged to opt for alternative routes into the emirate, such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The re-opening of the road closure in phase one came sooner than initially announced, said SRTA.

The road has a total of six lanes in each direction, which will be refurbished in a project costing Dh11 million. Damaged parts of the road will be restored and the sidewalk in each direction will be restored. New signage will also be placed along the road.
