Sharjah Police successfully rescued an Arab woman, in her twenties, who was attempting to commit suicide by jumping off a helipad of a hotel on Saturday morning.

The Saudi national is reportedly stuyding in the UAE.

No sooner than the police department received information of the incident, than the rescue team including an ambulance rushed to the site.

They found the woman on the 28th floor of a hotel where a helipad is located, said Colonel Omar Abdallah Al Suwaidi, Director of Police Stations, Sharjah Police.

The officials tried speaking and dissuading the woman from jumping but she remained adamant.

It took almost one-and-a-half-hours for the police personnel to convince her to give up.

One of the officials told her that she needs to drink some water as she was exhausted and it was too hot up there.

When she extended her hand to take the bottle from him, the policeman grabbed her hand and pulled her to safety away from the edge of the rooftop.

Initial investigation reveals that she checked into the hotel and immediately went to the 27th floor. From there she used the emergency exit to reach the 28th floor and as she was about to jump down, she was spotted by eyewitnesses who alerted the police.

The reason for her suicide attempt is not clear. Investigations are on.

She has been taken to hospital.
