The toll gate that allows truck drivers access from the Northern Emirates into Sharjah will become cash-free within a week’s time with the introduction of the prepaid card named ‘Tahseel’.

Trucks that enter Sharjah through the Sharjah-Al Dhaid bypass road, which is also called the truck road, have to pay a toll of Dh35 to Dh110 per trip. Traffic in the other direction is free of the toll charge.

The toll charge is currently collected through the use of coupons, which had to be purchased by transport companies. With the introduction of the Tahseel card, the cash system will be replaced by an electronic payment system.

Suleiman Al Hajiri, Manager of Roads Affairs at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah, said: “I have ordered the transfer to an e-card payment solution; a prepaid card improve  efficiency of truck toll collection at the gate on Dhaid Road.”

Truck drivers passing the gate will be required to carry a Tahseel card charged with a minimum credit of Dh50. When purchasing the card a one-time charge of Dh200 is applied.

The Tahseel card is issued by the Department of Finance of the Government of Sharjah and can be used for all government transactions in Sharjah, Al Hajiri said.

The Tahseel card can be purchased and recharged at any of the 18 service centres in the emirate. Registration can be done online at www.tahseel.gov.ae.
