The Ministry of Education has announced students of private and public schools will return to classes on Wednesday (November 9) after a three-day Eid holiday.
However, International schools that coupled their mid-term break with Eid festivities will follow their academic calendar and re-open only on Sunday (November 13).
Indian High School had sent out circulars last week informing parents of holidays from November 6-12.
Ali Mihad Al Suwaidi, Director-General, Ministry of Education, said schools should wait for official notification before informing students and parents of holidays.
Some schools, such as Sharjah Indian School, played it safe waiting for an Ministry announcement before announcing holiday dates.
The decision was taken to restrict 'unnecessary holidays', according to Al Suwaidi. Public school teachers are happy with the decision. Some of them were of the opinion that they find it difficult to complete syllabus on time due to long holidays.
However, several parents who had made holiday plans are unhappy with their wards' holidays cut short. Anyways most families would go ahead with planned trips and
keep their children off school for two days, said a few parents.
