Taxi smashes into mini-bus on SZR

A major accident took place on Sheikh Zayed Road this morning between 6.30am and 7am, near Noor Islamic Bank heading towards Bur Dubai.

The accident involved a taxi driver and a mini-van. Dubai Police were quickly on the scene to ensure there was no impact on trafic flow, however, given the peak hours of traffic on this major highways, tailbacks had already reached the Mall of the Emirates.

An eye-witness told this website that the taxi crashed into the mini-bus from behind and was completely smashed from the front. "There were ambulances at the scene," the person said.

Meanwhile, three traffic accidents occurred over the weekend, injuring 8 people.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic said that the first incident occurred at 12.45 pm on Friday in the Al Quoz Industrial Area, where two pedestrians were run-over leaving them both seriously injured.

The second incident occurred at 11:45 pm on Saturday, which involved a motorcycle in Karama.

The incident left the motorcycle driver, an Asian, seriously injured.

The third incident occurred at 11:50 pm on Saturday, when a Nissan Tiida ran into and a light pole in Al Quoz residential area, due to lack of control.

The vehicle crashed into the pavement and then hit the pole, wounding five people, two of them seriously.
