While UPS, a cargo major, has not yet responded to Emirates 24l7 queries about the pilots who died in the plane crash in Dubai on Friday, the Independent Pilots Association, a body representing pilots who work for UPS, seemed to be on a collision course with the company over several issues related to its pilots.

Due to recession and volume reduction in cargo movement, UPS has been downsizing its airline operations and members of the IPA have been concerned about a UPS plan to retrench about 300 pilots.

Captain Robert Thrush, President of the Independent Pilots Association, said earlier that member pilots took it upon themselves to give-up pay and benefits to produce $117 million in guaranteed savings for UPS, enough to keep these 300 pilots employed well into 2011.

The IPA Executive Board is coordinating with the IPA Family Awareness Committee to support the families of the pilots who died in the crash.
