Dubai Festival City Mall visitors this summer can participate in Formula 1 (F1) and Gran Turismo (GT) virtual racing experience to battle it out for the chequered flag during an 18-day competition for bragging rights and great prizes.

Starting June 20, Dubai Festival City Mall goers can use any of the six F1 cockpit simulators replicating the 2010 Ferrari F10 car driven by the Scuderia’s Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa or any of the six Gran Turismo Chassis pods with attached screens and adjustable foot pedals.

The top three performers during the 18-day competition will race each other on the final day for prizes worth Dh6,000. Every participant will enter a draw to win additional prizes in the form of gift vouchers from various mall outlets as well from top multi-brand sport retailer Intersport.

The event is one of the many initiatives introduced by Dubai Festival City Mall during this year’s Dubai Summer Surprises and coincides with the inauguration of the mall’s recently opened New Festival Square area, where the simulators will occupy an area of 375 sqm.

Highlights of the virtual racing experience include the full-function F1 steering wheel, screens showing individual contestants’ timings, achievements, fastest laps, score boards and a winners’ podium. The new attraction will be open from 12noon to 12 midnight daily.

Visitors spending Dh150 across its 400 stores or 75 restaurants are entitled to a raffle coupon and rev up their chances of driving away with a brand new 2013 Honda CR-V.

“The New Festival Square and the ten new stores which opened recently are just the first visible sample of the many improvements we are gradually introducing to the mall over the next few months,” said Murray Bell, Managing Director, Retail & Leisure at Al Futtaim Group Real Estate.

Children  will have great fun by turning up for any of the many daily shows of the Jungle Story or simply by participating at the activities of the Children’s Craft corner operating from 12 noon daily in Toys R Us Court.
