Dubai health authorities have caught 56 doctors and nurses working in local hospitals and medical centres with forged certificates within an ongoing campaign intended to clean up this vital sector.

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said it had sacked all those employees and placed them on the blacklist so they will not be able to work in any other medical centre in the UAE and the remaining Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

A reputed global firm appointed by DHA to check the eligibility of the medical staff in the emirate discovered that the certificates of 56 doctors and nurses working in Dubai were counterfeit.

Some of them had provided fake certificates from universities and nursing schools while some certificates of experience included wrong information.

“They were all sacked and were placed on the blacklist so they can not work as doctors and nurses in any hospital and medical centre in the UAE and other GCC countries,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said, quoting DHA sources.

“DHA officials said such measures are designed to ensure no fake doctors can work or get a medical licence in the country.”

The paper quoted Dr Ramadan Ibrahim, head of DHA’s medical organization division, as saying the move is in line with international practices aimed at ensuring qualified staff for the medical sector and providing “the best and most developed health services to the public.”

It also quoted Dr Laila Al Marzouki, head of the health governance section at DHA, as saying the Authority has informed the Ministry of Health and the Abu Dhabi Health Authority about its action against the 56 doctors and nurses. “This is to ensure they will not be granted any medical licence or allowed to work in any public or private medical institution in the UAE,” she said.
