In 2013, Dubai Marina housed 14 out of the 20 tallest buildings in the emirate.

The “tallest block in the world”, as christened by EC Harris, a global built asset consultancy, is all set to see completion and handover of another mega-tall tower next year.

Marina 101 is over 80 per cent complete with handover expected by early 2015, Sheffield Holdings Limited, a Dubai-based developer, has said in a statement.

The tower, which stands at 425 metres, will be second tallest tower in the UAE (828-metre Burj Khalifa is the tallest in the world), the company statement added.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) data, however, puts the height of the tower at 427 metres and placing it third highest tower (under construction) in Dubai, for now.

The Council’s website puts ‘106 Tower’ (under construction) in Dubai Marina on the second position (433 metres).

Princess Tower in Dubai Marina, standing at 414 metres, is currently the tallest residential tower in the world.

Other mega-tall towers in the master development are 23 Marina at 395 metres, Elite Residence at 381 metres, The Torch at 348 metres and  Cayan Tower at 310 metres. Sheffield statement states “following the approvals and the certification of its completion, handover of the hotel apartments and residential units will begin accordingly.”

Upon completion, Marina 101 will house a total of 420 hotel apartments, 60 three bedroom residential units, eight duplexes and a five-star hotel.

“The 101st floor will be a rooftop restaurant, which is expected to open by April 2015,” Sheffield Holding Chairman Abuali Shroff told Emirates 24|7.

“We are planning to open the restaurant by April and are currently working on the interiors,” he added.

Dubai has 909 high-rises of 454 are skyscrapers, Emporis, which collates data on building worldwide, data reveals, while CTBUH puts Dream Dubai Marina as the 35th tallest tower in the world..
