Dubai Ruler launches 'Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum World Peace Award'

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai has issued decree No. 19 of 2011, establishing the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum World Peace Award, and a decision setting up the award's Board of Trustees.

The law appoints Dr Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani as chairman of the board and Sultan bin Butti bin Mejren as deputy chairman, with a membership of Mohammed Saeed Al Merri, Dr Omar Mohammed Al Khatib, Dr Saif Matar Al Jaberi, Mohammed Suhail Al Muhairi, Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Shamsuddine Muhieddine, Abdul Samad Muhieddine, Ahmed Abdul Hameed, AbdulSalam Baar Ambele and Mohsin bin Ahmed.

The decision, which set the board's three-year term of office that may be renewed, is effective from its date of issuance and will be published in the official gazette.

One of the most important objectives of the award, as highlighted in the fourth article of the decree, is to honour entities with outstanding contributions to international peace, promoting civilised interaction among nations, preserving international peace, encouraging communication among different religions, and bringing forth the true image of Islam as a religion of forgiveness and peace.

The second article of the decree states that the award enjoys a corporate body status, financial and administrative autonomy and full legal capacity to help it carry out its duties and activities and achieve its objectives.

As per the decree, the emirate of Dubai will be the permanent headquarters of the award with the right to open branches outside the emirate. The award will be managed in accordance with its bylaws and articles of association.

The award's Board of Trustees is also mandated with the preparations for organising the "Dubai Global Peace Conference" including event timing, approving nominations, setting up specialized committees and work teams as per the requirements of the award's operations.

The Board of Trustees of the award will choose a Secretary General with the authority to propose annual plans in line with the objectives defined by the award. The award's fiscal year will begin on January 1 and end on December 31 on every year.

 


New DIFC Courts judge takes oath before Mohammed
 

A new judge at the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts (DIFC Courts) took oath of office before His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in a special ceremony held on Wednesday at the DIFC headquarters.

Sheikh Mohammed welcomed Judge David Steel and wished him success in his new post in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Deputy Ruler and Chairman of the DIFC Supreme Board of Directors Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The oath taking ceremony was also attended by President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Deputy Chairman of the DIFC Supreme Board of Directors Abdulaziz Al Ghurair, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Jumma Al Maktoum, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Members of the Board of Directors at DIFC and Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts Michael Hwang.
