Documenting an important era in the history of the United Arab Emirates and the establishment of the Union, the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) on Wednesday released a book on the "Spirit of the Union" lecture delivered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the occasion of UAE's 40th National Day.
The historical significance of the lecture stems from the detailed narration by Sheikh Mohammed who stood witness to critical events and challenges that paved the way for the establishment of a unified state under one banner. Interspersed with his own poetry, Sheikh Mohammed told of the courageous resistance that drove off invaders and persistent efforts of UAE's forefathers to uphold the Union.
The book, enriched by the testimony of Sheikh Mohammed, authenticates historical facts that shed light on pivotal junctures on the path to realising the "dream state" 40 years ago. It also corrects important historical facts such as the place that saw the first meeting to discuss the union of the emirates between the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, whose farsighted vision was the driving force behind building the country.
Sheikh Mohammed's lecture, delivered before a multitude of Emirati nationals, intellectuals, prominent literary figures and researchers, is considered an invaluable narration of history from which all can draw lessons for the future and how leaders tackle awkward challenges in their quest of a higher cause.
Adorned with a unique poetic touch, the book includes poems written and recited by Sheikh Mohammed during the lecture applauding the determination of Emirati youth and their efforts in continuing the march of progress in serving their beloved homeland and creating a better future for the generations to come.
