Groom sleeps with birds; bride asks for divorce

A Saudi woman filed for divorce from her husband one day after their marriage because he left her on their wedding night to sleep with his birds in another room in their house, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The unnamed wife went to court in the eastern province of Qateef and asked the judge to divorce her, saying her husband “humiliated” her by leaving her on their first night to sleep with his birds.

“After strenuous efforts, the judge succeeded in persuading the woman to change her mind in return for a pledge from her husband not to repeat this act and to take the birds out of the house,” Alriyadh Arabic language daily said.

“The woman had told the judge that she had been very patient with him during their engagement but had not expected him to do so on their wedding night.”
