Man gets four years for drug possession

A court in Fujairah sentenced an Emirati man to four years in jail after he was seized with 1.3 gm of hashish, a newspaper said on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old man, identified as BA, was arrested in March after police found the drugs in his car, Emirat Alyoum said.

The man told court he had obtained the stuff from a Gulf drug dealer inside the UAE and denied he had smuggled narcotics into the country.

An appeals court supported the four-year jail sentence against the man but reduced a Dh20,000-penalty to Dh5,000.
