MANILA Janine Tugonon, the first runner-up at the 2012 Miss Universe beauty pageant, has not only signified her interest of joining show business but also her choice of a would-be leading man.
If she had her way, Ms Tugonon, who is also a licensed pharmacist, would want to star in a movie opposite Dingdong Dantes, an award-wining actor and one of the mainstays of the Kapuso network GMA-7.
She has revealed in a recent radio interview that Mr Dantes is her idol, saying he does not only have good looks but is also a very good actor.
“I like Dingdong a lot,” she said. “It would be good if we could do a love story kind of movie together. He’s such a good actor, and I really look up to him when it comes to acting.”
Mr Dantes won the 2012 Best Actor award last month at the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) for the second consecutive year, for his dramatic performance in Star Cinema’s ‘One More Try’.
Last year he won the same award for the horror flick ‘Segunda Mano’ (Second-Hand). He received intrigues over this triumph, as many people suspected that his co-star, presidential sister Kris Aquino, had influenced the results of the 37th annual MMFF Awards.
Ms Tugonon participated in the Miss Universe competition held at Las Vegas last December, and won runner-up to winner Miss USA, Olivia Culpo.
There are a number of beauty queens who have joined show business, including Shamcey Supsup, the Miss Universe Third Runner-Up in 2011, Venus Raj (Miss Universe Fourth Runner-Up 2010), and Gloria Diaz (the country’s first Miss Universe who won the crown in 1969), among others.
While Ms Tugonon and Mr Dantes capped 2012 with a bang, it looks like 2013 will be so much brighter for both of them.
