Restaurant shut for serving hyena meat

Saudi authorities shut down a restaurant after discovering it was serving hyena meat to customers without their knowledge, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Health inspectors on routine visits to eating outlets suspected the restaurant near the Southern town of Najran was violating rules when they saw a confused worker standing at the door as it was about to close late at night, the Arabic language daily ‘Ajel’ said.

“They discovered that it was slaughtering hyena to serve meals for customers. The inspectors immediately shut the restaurant and fined it SR10,000 (Dh10,000).”
