Saudi Arabia has told hunters they can hunt hares in the new quarterly season from next week but warned them against using any weapons or hunting at night.
The Wildlife Authority said the hare hunting season would start on Dec 17 and told those who would be involved in hunting to avoid wildlife reserves and other exclusion areas in the Gulf Kingdom, the largest Arab country.
“Those who will hunt can use only falcons or hunting dogs during the day as hunting is strictly banned at night…all shotguns are also now allowed in hunting,” the Authority said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
It designated areas which are barred for hunters across the country, including reserves, vital areas and the vast Al Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert.
The Authority also warned hunters against targeting Arabian gazelle, the Oryx and all other endangered species “in any place and at any time.”
