Emergency relief aid has been dispatched by the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC), the Khalifa Foundation and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to the people in the Yemeni Island of Socotra which was hit by the tropical cyclone Chapala.
An air bridge is also being put together to dispatch relief materials to the affected people in the Yemeni provinces of Al Mahra, Hadramout, Shabwa and East Socotra.
The three humanitarian bodies are working together to alleviate the suffering of the people there by preparing tonnes of relief materials, which include foodstuff, medicine, blankets and clothes.
Following a warning issued by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) of a high-impact tropical cyclone named Chapala forming in the Arabian Sea and heading rapidly towards Oman and Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre initiated emergency and disaster management preparations, in co-ordination with the legitimate government in Yemen and with the international relief organisations there.
The response by the ERC, Khalifa Foundation and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is as part of the Humanitarian Coalition formed to help mitigate the effects of the cyclone on the people in brotherly Yemen.
