Saudis are the third laziest people in the world because of their idle lifestyle that has made millions suffer from diabetes, according to a Saudi medical expert.
Dr Anwar Al Hashim, a health education specialist at King Saud Hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh, said Saudi Arabia has one of the highest diabetes rates in the world, with nearly 3.5 million of its 30 million people suffering from the disease.
“Saudi Arabia ranks third in the world in terms of idleness. This is because of the idle lifestyle and lack of exercises in the Kingdom,” she said in a lecture according to the Arabic language daily ‘Sabq’.
She said women are lazier than men in Saudi Arabia and the other Arab countries and that they do not move enough compared with Western women.
“Women aged between 30 and 70 years in the Arab world are considered lazy compared with Western women although they realise that walking stimulates blood circulation, controls diabetes and reduces cholesterol in the blood,” she said.
