This one is sure to break the hearts of a lot of Apple fans eagerly awaiting the transparent, flexible iPhone 6 to hit store shelves in 2013. Sorry, but it’s not going to happen this year.
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, who has in the past correctly predicted a number of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launches, has said in his latest report that Apple Inc. will not launch its iPhone 6 before June 2014.
According to Financial Post, “while this may seem like an eternity for fans of the popular smartphone, he explains the wait is due to the time required to transition the device’s display technology.”
This display technology is what we’ve been talking about for so long – one that allows users to write on the screen with a normal pen or pencil, and perhaps sport a transparent screen (at least in part). Meanwhile, Apple will still launch the iPhone 5S this year, perhaps as early as next month, but do not expect major overhauls in this iteration of Apple’s spearhead.
Misek does say that the iPhone 5S will come in multiple colour options (we told you so).
Misek’s justification for the delay is that the Cupertino-based company is gearing up for its iPhone 5S release this year and getting the supply chain ready for the iPhone 6 will take at least two or three quarters.
We think it might take a little longer than that, and that it just might give Samsung the breathing space to consolidate its lead in the global smartphones arena.
