Mom jumps into well with baby

Colombo: A 22-year-old woman in Mihintale, Sri Lanka, committed suicide by jumping into a well along with her infant child, reported , ‘Lakbima’.

According to police reports, the woman never got along with her mother-in-law and the two women fought frequently.

It is alleged that the woman was unhappy as her husband reprimanded her.

On that fateful day, as she was preparing to attend a function, an argument ensued with her husband and she threatened him that she would jump into the well.

Husband, R W Wijekumara, 28, told police that she ran towards the well, about 25 meters from home and leapt into it carrying their one-and-a-half month old baby boy, and that he attempted to stop her but failed.
